Occurrence - as in the becoming of things. An apple gradually begins to occur on an apple tree. To become a thing in this world. The apple's occurence has meaning as we taste the fruit. Similarly, there are products constantly coming out of factories to occur as things in our world. They benefit our lives and give them meaning.
New things continually occur in the world, non-stop. The newer they are, the more complex they tend to become. For instance, smartphones today are far more intricate compared to phones back in the days. The same is true with living things. The earth continues to bear increasingly complex organisms in its existence spanning billions of years.
Given so, it’s fair to assume that reality must have been relatively simpler with fewer things early on. Gradually becoming more complex with increasing variety of things.
A question then is - What things occurred at the very onset of reality? And what did they mean? Did reality start with nothing?
Surely couldn't have.
Nothing is void of things and meaning.
Nothing leads to nothing.
The next possibility – Could the universe have
started with a single thing alone?
Conceptually not.
A single thing all by itself is an idea, but how can its realness be validate? There has to be something else around to account its existence. A thing exist in relation to another. It takes two to mean something.
That was purely imaginary but conveys the idea. The human context has to be taken out in contemplating the very onset of reality. And taking the human context out is a hard habit to break. Afterall, the thought process itself is human centric to begin with. The point being, there ought to have been other things before humans and that's obvious. There must exist air to breath, and water to drink, before humans set foot on the stage of reality.
In reality, there are things and there are meanings. A meaning ties things together. Meaning signifies relation between things. My phone is a thing. Making telephone calls is what the phone means to me. The other way around, I as a thing means owner to the phone. It's meaning that ties me and the phone together. One referencing the other.
Reference onsets meaning. Occurrence onsets things.
Being small or large is a meaning. Small isn't a thing. A thing being smaller is by reference or comparison to another. The same way, count is a meaning as well. Having a count means there are things around in some context. How many are there in reference is the meaning of count. It is pointless counting if there's only one thing in the entire world. A single thing has no point being large or small either.
There are innumerable things spread across the universe. And they are bound by meanings. The adherence of meaning between things is what makes the world coherent and real. Meanings aren't all human-centric. Meaning applies to every single thing in the world, living or non-living. All things connect with relevant others in some context to form a relationships. Much like people do.
Simpler things are confined to simpler meanings whereas complex things are open to complex meanings. For instance - a rain drop falling towards the ground means gravity between the two. Gravity is a mening much like love is. Although, meaning of gravity is far simpler than love. Obviously because gravity is applicable to a simple rain drop. Whereas love is outside the scope of a rain drop. Only complex entities such as prople can mean love.
Meaning isn't part of a physical thing. Meanings aren't physical as they are in between things. Meanings are abstract. Meaning is a process. The meaning of gravity lies in the process of falling. Love is a process the same way.
When things interact, their interaction can reveal if they influence one another. The influence signify commonness between the things. Friendship, for instance, means commonness between two friends. An outcome of their interaction.
Things in the world continually move around and come across other things. In doing so they can end up influencing one another. Say a magnet comes across another magnet and they attract each other. The peculiarity of their attraction onsets the meaning of magnetism. If nothing in the world was attracted to the magnet, the magnet's magnetism is practically in-existent. Such attribute of things that manifest only upon finding commonness with another, is the abstraction of meaning.
Interaction being key to meaning, there are possible forms.
As in interaction between -
